Court Stories and Novel Writing

Something I often want to blog about are my days in Court. I have had hundreds of adventures over the course of my career, as any trial lawyer has had, but one can’t just blog about them. You have clients that you owe confidentiality to. You have Judges involved who probably would not appreciate being written about — and a couple who would make your next client pay for your indiscretion the next time you were in their courtroom.

So I don’t get to blog about many of the funny or interesting adventures I’ve had at the courthouse.

That is also one of the secondary reasons I write fiction, perhaps. It gives me a way to write about my Courtroom experiences.

The current manuscript that I’m working on, book three of Murder For Me, involves a trial in Amarillo, Texas, that is there on a change of venue from Houston, Harris County. I’m currently writing the chapter in which the trial is starting and the people who will eventually be on the jury panel are reporting for jury duty.

It gives me a chance to write about Amarillo, too. I’ve wanted to all my adult life, and this book was a great opportunity. My previous books were all centered in Houston, and I was ready to move on.

I can’t say more now, as I don’t want to give away anything about book two of Murder For Me, which is finished and being edited.
