“I didn’t like you when I joined the Critique Group.”

Eric Theusen is guest blogging this time. He’s in my writers’ critique group and a very good friend.  Hes a better writer than I am. We fight about writing, manuscripts, and literature all the time over a few glasses of wine. I’m sure you’ll enjoy his blogs, too.

Eric writes:

“I didn’t like you when I joined the critique group.”

Aha, that’s what kept those red flags flapping. When I spoke, the lawyer objected; he interrupted, ignored or disagreed with everything I said.. His courthouse speak, always at level two, severed the restaurant din but never quite murdered it.

One day he heard something of value in my quiet speak and listened a little more. We’ve grown to respect each other’s idiotsyncrasies. Russell still thinks I care too much about everyone’s opinion. He challenges such limits and speaks sharply to my juggler.

His brutal style has toughened me. A writer couldn’t ask for a better gift.
