Poets on the street in New Orleans

We were wondering the streets of the French Quarter in New Orleans, and we turned a corner and found a line of tables against a cafe’s wall with people typing. Outside. At midnight.

We had to check it out.

This line of 5 to 6 writers would type a poem on any subject you requested contemporaneously, and then stand up and dramatically read it to you. Twenty bucks.

Of course we hired one. We support local artists, and this was pretty cool.

By the next morning when I was ready to do this blog, the poem was missing. But it was a great job. It did include a couple of lines I wouldn’t want my mother to read though.

We then wondered around another corner and found, at midnight, a local artists market. My son and I both purchased a piece of art.

My point is that you don’t have to just guzzle alcohol to enjoy the French Quarter. There’s divergent attractions for adults of varied interests.

My interests nicely intersected between art, people watching, and alcohol, so I had a really good time. I listened to the heavily inebriated conversations around me. I will have to work to recreate that in a fiction piece, but I’m going to try.

I also took several videos that will be up on my YouTube page over the next couple of weeks. When they’re up, they’ll be here: http://www.russelllittleauthor.com/my-videos/
